Amanda Nunes looks to be defending against Raquel Pennington at UFC 224
According to multiple reports, Nunes will defend her Bantamweight title against Pennington
In a report first published by Combate, sources indicate that UFC 224 will be headlined by a Bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington. The event is set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in May. Thoughts were that the UFC was trying to get Amanda Nunes in a super-fight with Cris Cyborg, but that didn’t materialize.
Amanda Nunes (15-4) will be looking to defend her title for the third time since winning the belt at UFC 200 when she stopped Miesha Tate. She has been a force having stopped Tate, Ronda Rousey and defeating Valentina Shevchenko by split decision. She’s an absolute force and will be a difficult fight for Pennington.
Raquel Pennington (9-5) is in the middle of a four-fight winning streak and looks to be at her best heading into a potential world championship fight. She has well-rounded skills and could provide a test for Nunes on the mat. Raquel also has good standup, but Nunes might be the stronger striker.
The fight has not yet been confirmed by the UFC, but all signs point to it being a near lock. Brazilians Davi Ramos, Junior Albini, and Alberto Mina are all Brazilians who are scheduled to compete on the card.
