Mixed martial arts has spawned quite a few crossover stars as it relates to Hollywood. First, there was Gina Carano, then Georges St. Pierre, followed by, of course, Ronda Rousey. But now a new fighter enters the arena, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
Hailed as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time, the former UFC middleweight champion has aspirations of hitting it big in Hollywood.
“My biggest dream now is to win an Oscar,” Silva told Combate while dong press for UFC 208.
“I have some auditions in Hollywood. I wrote a script and Netflix picked it up. I have other projects apart from fighting. It has always been my dream to become an action star. I have been studying that for a while.”
We’ve all dreamed of an Anderson Silva versus Georges St. Pierre matchup, but unfortunately, Silva’s project won’t be giving it to us either:
“It’s an action script, but it has nothing to do with fighting.”
Silva has been eating, breathing, and sleeping his new found passion of writing for film and television:
“I’m always writing, putting ideas on paper before I go to bed and after I wake up.”
If The Spider attacks Hollywood with the same ferocity and focus that he brings to the octagon, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him find success on the silver screen.
But before he can get to all that, he has some business to tend to at UFC 208. Silva hasn’t won a fight since October of 2012 when he scored a 1st-round TKO over Stephan Bonner. Since then he has dropped four of five with 1 No Contest.
He faces Derek Brunson who will be no walk in the park. Brunson is looking to rebound from a recent loss to Robert Whittaker, and a win over Anderson Silva is a feather every fighter would love to have in their cap.
We look forward to hearing more about Silva’s film and television endeavors with Netflix and elsewhere as they unfold. UFC 208 takes place at the Barclays Center on February 11th, from Brooklyn, New York.
