Jessica Andrade locks up title fight with win over Angela Hill

Super Bowl weekend got off to quite a start last night in Houston at UFC Fight Night. “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung made his long awaited comeback with a 1st-round KO win over Dennis Bermudez. But it was the main card’s first bout between Jessica Andrade and Angela Hill that scored “Fight of the Night” honors.

For Hill, the Invicta FC strawweight champion, it was her first fight back in the UFC after winning four straight and the title in Invicta. While Andrade had actually turned down a title fight, wanting one more go in the octagon before taking on Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

The two strawweights went after it from the opening bell. While Andrade walked away with a decisive unanimous decision win, 30-27 on all three scorecards, Hill showed tremendous heart and an iron jaw, as many of the shots landed by Andrade would have dropped most opponents.

Andrade came into the fight ranked #5 in the division and when asked during the FS1 post-fight show if she would indeed get the title shot, Dana White said “absolutely”.

“When you see the way she fought tonight, just imagine those two squaring off and the absolute war that will be. That’s going to be a fun fight.”

Joanna has conveyed that she will be heading into training camp shortly for her next fight, though it does not yet have a date. We will have to wait and see what the medical suspensions from UFC Fight Night 104 are before knowing for sure how soon we can see Andrade and Jedrzejczyk go toe to toe.
