Angela Hill sees Joanna Jedrzejczyk as an “easier” fight

Current Invicta FC strawweight champion Angela Hill has had a roller coaster last few months. She wins the title, gets called back up to the UFC, only to have her fight cancelled because there wouldn’t be enough time to enter the USADA testing pool beforehand.

Well, Angela is now back in the UFC mix as she’s set to step into the octagon this Saturday against Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Night in Houston, Texas. The Ultimate Fighter alum’s last fight in the UFC was coincidentally enough also in Houston, a first-round submission loss to Rose Namajunas.

Hill appeared on The MMA Hour yesterday with Ariel Helwani and when pressed about her upcoming fight and what the future could hold, Hill claimed she would call out UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk should she win this Saturday night.

“I’m gonna call her out. I’m totally gonna call her out. I mean, I feel like for me Joanna’s an easier fight. Just because she’s not gonna go for takedowns, at least not at first. That’s not gonna be her plan A. Everyone that I fought since my first fight, their plan has been to take me down and submit me. So it’s gonna be a relief for me. I’ll be able to actually chill and open up in my striking, and actually do a little more what I’m used to doing, as opposed to hitting and moving. I can actually unleash on her. So I definitely feel like Joanna is an easier fight than Andrade is.”

Prior to her career in mixed martial arts, Hill (6-2) was a Muay Thai kickboxer, something Joanna knows a thing or two about. She amassed a career record of 16-0 before making the switch.

Confidence is a great thing to have, but those are some pretty heavy words to be levied at the champ. Taking nothing away from Hill, it’s Joanna’s Muay Thai and 13-0 mixed martial arts pedigree that makes those comments seem so crazy.

Be that as it may, Angela has her sights set on Joanna following a win this weekend over Andrade. But given that she’s currently unranked, would UFC brass consider such a match?

UFC Fight Night from Houston goes down this Saturday, February 4th. Live and free on FS1.
