Say it isn’t so! Antonio Silva to meet Rico Verhoeven at Glory 46.

This fight is what’s wrong with combat sports. It shouldn’t be allowed.

Onetime UFC fighter Antonio Silva has not been on a tear lately. That’s putting it mildly. “Bigfoot” is  1-8 in his last nine including five consecutive losses. What makes those losses worse is the fact he was stopped via KO or TKO in 7 of those 8 losses. He’s fought twice since leaving the UFC and lost both of those fights.

He last fought in June, where he was knocked out by Vitaly Minakov. By all means of rational thought, Antonio Silva should be taking a substantial break from fighting. Multiple KO/TKO losses can obviously be detrimental to your health. With that in mind, it seems really irresponsible to allow him to compete for Glory against world champion Rico Verhoeven. That is exactly what it looks like it taking place, however. Rico posted via Instagram that the fight was booked.

I can not for the life of me see any result here that isn’t Antonio Silva violently knocked out. He’s been struggling at best to compete in the world of MMA and has opted to jump into kickboxing. Not only is he testing the kickboxing waters, he’s fighting the heavyweight champion. It doesn’t seem very responsible to even allow this fight to take place.

Glory 46 is scheduled to take place in Guangzhou, China on  October 14th.
