Bellator 170 Main Card Results – Big night for Tito Ortiz and Paul Daley

Bellator 170 Results

The Forum in Inglewood, CA played host to a memorable night of mixed martial arts action tonight.  In the Bellator 170 main event, a retiring Tito Ortiz submitted Chael Sonnen in the first round.  For Ortiz, he leaves the sport on a high note, after a very personal battle of words with Sonnen leading up to their fight.  Ortiz took the bait, and used it as motivation and Sonnen made cheap shots, laughed at and generally poked the bear for a month leading up the fight.  Here are the Bellator 170 main card results.

On Saturday night, Tito exacted his revenge.  After escaping a choke attempt by Sonnen, he scrambled, mounted and dropped some shots on Sonnen who immediately gave Ortiz his back.  Ortiz sunk the hooks, wrapped his arms around Sonnen’s head and squeezed.  Sonnen tried to fight the choke, turned purple and tapped out.  Tito didn’t immediately release the choke and was admonished by referee John McCarthy after the fact. Ortiz apologized to McCarthy.  He wasn’t apologizing to Sonnen however.

Tito took off his gloves, and his oldest son laid them in the middle of ring, signifying the end of an iconic career.

Co-Main Event

In the C0-main event, Paul “Semtex” Daley lived up to his monicker and delivered the fistic fury.  Well, in actuality he landed a spinning rear elbow and then a jumping knee that landed with a sickening thud.  That was it, goodnight Brennan Ward.

Ward left the cage on a stretcher, but signaled to the crowd that he was OK, much to the joy of the fans in attendance.  It was a great fight, and sets up some potential Welterweight classes for Daley.  He could Michael “Venom” Page or Bellator newcomer Rory MacDonald in 2017.  I’d be very excited for either fight.
