Looking at Bellator 171 Main Event clash between Njokuani and Guillard

We’re all still hung over from Bellator 170, but splash some water on your face because Bellator 171 features a compelling main event

Bellator 170 was started a little slow, but did it ever close with a bang. Brennan Ward had his eye rearranged by a Paul Daley knee, and then Tito Ortiz subbed Chael Sonnen to call it a career on top of the world.  I know everyone is still talking about that event, and rightfully so, but Friday night Bellator 171 is up.  The main event should be a blast.  Two strikers who are going to go toe to toe in a sure-fire slug-fest.

Chidi Njokuani and Melvin Guillard will go at it Friday night in Kansas City, and it isn’t likely to go the distance.  Both fighters are fast and heavy handed and love to stand and trade.  It’s a recipe for excitement, and I’m looking forward to it. The fight is booked at a catch-weight of 175 pounds.

Chidi Njokuani (16-4) is riding a career high seven fight winning streak.  He’s long for the division, enjoying a reach advantage over most Welterweights.  Chidi possesses an eighty inch reach, and also has long legs, and is great at utilizing them.  He is very fast and has great movement inside the cage.  Njokuani brings an ability to end a fight at any moment and is an up and coming star for Bellator.

Melvin Guillard (32-16) has had his ups and downs in MMA.  He has lost three in a row, and four of five.  The one aspect of Guillard’s game that makes him a legitimate threat is his power.  Guillard can knock any Welterweight in the world out with a single shot.  He has that kind of rare power in his hands.  Melvin will have to work hard to tough Chidi though, as he will be at a dramatic seven inch reach disadvantage.  If he’s able to get inside however, he could make things very interesting.
