Co-Main event named for Bellator 172 Mitrione/Emelianenko

Bellator announced tonight at Bellator 171 who will be co-main event at Bellator 172

We already know that February 18th, marks the return of Fedor Emelianenko to American soil.  He will go one on one with Matt Mitrione at Bellator 172 live from San Jose, CA.  Emelianenko (36-4) is widely considered the greatest of all time, and it is a huge feather in Bellator’s cap that he’s under their banner.  Matt Mitrione (11-5) is 2-0 since signing with Bellator.  It is a huge match-up for him, and it will draw the eyes of many, many fans.  Now we know the co main event will feature a clash between Josh Thomson and Patricky Freire.

Josh Thomson (22-8)  has been on the shelf for a bit, but he’ll be looking to return in his hometown.  He’s won two consecutive fights, and will be looking to get into title contention with a win over Freire.  Josh trains out of AKA in San Jose, and will undoubtedly have an overwhelming home crowd advantage.

Patricky Freire (16-8) is a well rounded fighter with an aggressive style. He’s won two of his last three, but was knocked out by Michael Chandler in his last outing.  He will obviously be looking to rebound, and try and earn a rematch with the Lightweight champion, Chandler.

Bellator 172 is on February 18th and airs live and free on Spike TV.  The card looks like this.
