Former Bellator LHW Champion Liam McGeary headlines Bellator 173

Liam McGeary to headline Bellator 173 in Northern Ireland against Chris Fields

According to a report by ESPN, former Bellator Light Heavyweight champion Liam McGeary (11-1) will be headlining Bellator 173 next month against Chris Fields (11-7)  in Northern Ireland.  The match on paper seems a bit of a mismatch, but styles make fights.

McGeary, lost his title to Phil Davis back in November in a five round clash.  He will be looking to get the win here, and get back on track in Bellator’s deep Light Heavyweight division.  McGeary defended his title against Tito Ortiz in his highest profile victory.  He submitted Ortiz in the first round of their September 2015 fight.

Chris Fields was on The Ultimate Fighter season 19 and lost to Matt van Buren on the show.  He brings an uneven 11-7 record into the fight, but is coming off of a win at Bamma 24 over Dan Konecke.  He is also a native of Ireland and will likely have the home crowd cheering for him.

Bellator 173 is set to take place February 24th and air on Spike TV.  So far no other matches or details on the card have been released.
