Free agency is expected to be much more interesting going forward in the world of mixed martial arts. Bellator made a big splash last year by signing Benson Henderson, Matt Mitrione, Rory MacDonald, Chael Sonnen, and Fedor Emelianenko. Coming into 2017, Scott Coker is showing no signs of slowing down as Ryan Bader is currently up for grabs.
It has been reported that Coker intends to make an offer to the free agent light heavyweight next week. Bader (22-5) has been with the UFC since 2008 after winning season eight of The Ultimate Fighter.
He is 14-5 in the UFC, with losses to Jon Jones, Anthony Johnson, and Bellator 170 main eventer Tito Ortiz. He owns octagon victories over Rashad Evans, Rampage Jackson, and Bellator light heavyweight champion Phil Davis.
Bader is ranked 4th in the UFC’s light heavyweight division, and with Jones and current champ Daniel Cormier currently on the sideline, the UFC may be willing to pony up to keep Bader.
No word yet on what type of offer Bellator is looking to make to “Darth” but it will no doubt be enticing.
