Bellator releases their Welterweight tournament first-round pairings

Bellator has announced the first round pairings for their Welterweight tourney!

Bellator is currently in the middle of their Heavyweight Grand Prix and they also have a Welterweight tourney about to kick off. We released the fighters involved in the tournament last month, but now we know the pairings and there are some interesting first-round matchups.

Michael Page vs. Paul Daley

This is a fight that’s been building for a long time, and we’re finally going to see these two go after it. It will mark MVP’s toughest opponent to date as well as a must-win fight for Daley. This one should be an instant classic!

Douglas Lima vs. Andrey Koreshkov

Former Bellator champions meet for the third time. Douglas Lima is a remarkably talented Welterweight. Andrey Koreshkov is super tough and this fight with Lima marks their third time in the cage. They are currently tied at one win apiece. It’s a shame one of these guys will be eliminated in round 1.

Rory MacDonald vs. Jon Fitch

Rory MacDonald is the current champion and is one of the best welterweights on the planet. He has wins over Lima, BJ Penn, Demien Maia and current UFC champion Tyron Woodley. Jon Fitch is a beast but he’s overmatched here against MacDonald.

Neiman Gracie vs. Ed Ruth

This is a matchup of two guys who would have been seeded lower in this tournament. Nieman Gracie is an undefeated fighter but hasn’t fought anyone near the caliber of the fighters in this tournament. Same can be said of wrestling phenom Ed Ruth. It’s a massive step up in competition for Ruth.
