Cashing in … best bets for UFC Fight Night 117 this weekend

Dust off your wallet and let’s make a little cash.

From time to time it’s been said that people like to put a little money down on a fight and make things interesting.  The most difficult aspect is finding decent odds in MMA. I like trying to find fighters who are underdogs who I believe actually have a decent chance to win their fights. It’s not easy. If it would, we’d all be driving Ferraris and living in mansions. With that in mind, it’s time for Cashing in!

Both the UFC and Bellator are holding events this weekend.  There are some interesting fights on both cards. We’re going to look at the cards and see if there are any fights that look like money-makers.  So without further adieu, let’s make some paper.

Jessica Andrade +220
Claudia Gadelha -280

There is only one fighter in the world at Strawweight that I would bet on over Claudia consistently and that’s Joanna Champion. I honestly believe Gadelha is the second best in the world at 115 pounds. That said, this fight line intrigues me a little and I’ll tell you why.  One of Claudia’s advantages in MMA is her strength, but Andrade might be on par with her there. I think Andrade has better stand up as well. Now, Claudia is durable and can take damage, but I feel Andrade can pressure her and utilize her strength to keep the fight standing. I think Jessica is a very live underdog here. The trip to Japan can be a difficult ordeal as well, and Claudia has had some weight issues in the past.

You could do worse than to bet Andrade here.

Ovince Saint Preux -500
Yushin Okami +350

Things that make you go hmmm…..OSP should be a big favorite here, and he is. That said, Ovince has had issues with guys who can take him down repeatedly, and sap his energy. Enter Yushin Okami.  A little-known fact about Yushin is he is strong as a mule. That man is silly strong, like country-breakfast and throw hay bales all day strong.  OSP has lost 4 of his last 5 fights, so the notion that he’s some unbeatable killer in this fight is a little silly.  What makes me nervous is that Okami recently has been competing at 170 pounds, and for this fight, taken on short notice, he is fighting at 205. At the weigh-ins, Yushin looked good, so I am going out on a limb here and saying I like him to pull off the upset.

Okami will win this fight, get your bets in.

There you have it, the two fights I like on the UFC card this weekend to bet. If nothing else, just remember these things while watching the fights. Betting isn’t for everyone and I don’t want you spending your lunch money on impossible to win parlays and longshots.
