Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw let the fists fly, one of the shots broke Cody’s hand
Cody’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has indicated that Cody Garbrandt suffered a broken hand during his Bantamweight title fight with TJ Dillashaw last weekend. He and TJ Dillashaw met in the feature bout of UFC 227 and it was an action-packed fight that saw Dillashaw win via TKO for the second time in nine months.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani posted the news and said they were waiting to find out whether or not the broken hand will require surgery. Cody Garbrandt’s two losses to Dillashaw, mark the only blemishes on his career. There are a lot of compelling fights for Garbrandt in the division once his hand heals.
A fight between Cody Garbrandt and Marlos Moraes would be an incredible fight, and I’d happily plunk down my money for that fight. A fight with John Lineker would be a blast as well. There are plenty of options for Cody once he’s healed up and ready to get back in the Octagon.
Prior to his fight with Dillashaw, he opened up on issues with fighter pay and feeling forced to fight due to financial responsibilities. It’s not a topic of discussion that thrills the UFC as they’d have us believe these guys are all flush and living the dream. So now he’ll be on the shelf for a period of time, and financially, that’s not at all beneficial.
