UFC 207 will mark the biggest fight of Cody Garbrandt’s career. He is set to face Dominick Cruz for the UFC bantamweight championship on December 30th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cody currently sits at 10-0 with 9 of his victories coming by KO, 7 of which were in the first round. If that tells you one thing about Cody it’s that he’s a bad, bad man.
During the UFC on FOX 22 post-fight show Garbrandt and Cruz had a face-off (albeit over camera) and we were once again shown the intense fighter side of the Uhrichsville, Ohio, native. But it is in his little hometown that the softer side of Cody comes out through a very touching relationship that he shares. Insert Maddux Maple, a 9-yeard old Urichsville boy that was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 5.
Cody and Maddux have been tight since the early days of Cody’s career. The two stay in touch and Cody visits regularly and has been a huge influence in keeping Maddux motivated to beat his cancer diagnosis. Maddux is currently in remission and looks to be in Cody’s corner once again at UFC 207.
For a guy nicknamed “No Love”, Cody’s relationship with Maddux sure proves otherwise.
