Curtis Blaydes looks to be fighting Francis NGannou in China

This is a clash of one heavyweight on the rise, and one hoping to halt his fall.

Curtis Blaydes looks like he’s going to get a big fight. Last time we saw Francis NGannou, he was one half of the worst heavyweight fight in the storied history of the UFC. He and Derrick Lewis put on an absolute stinker with neither fighter willing to engage and NGannou refusing to even pretend to want to fight. Dana White has come out publicly and said NGannou changed and has more or less become a nightmare.

Curtis Blaydes is an up and coming heavyweight who seems only short on opportunity. He has the talent to put the title around his waist, he just needs some high profile fights. Blaydes has beaten Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem in consecutive fights. He has been moving up the rankings and will be looking to get the lone loss of his record in his rematch with NGannou.

The two met back at UFC Fight Night 86 and the fight was stopped due to an eye injury after the second round. Francis NGannou got the win that night, but since, they have been on different trajectories. Francis lost to Stipe Miocic in his world title fight and then had what can be best described as a non-performance against Lewis.

The fight was first reported by Ariel Helwani of ESPN. He says the fight is agreed upon, but not yet official. It will likely take place in November at UFC Fight Night 141 in Beijing, China.
