Dana White tells us EXACTLY where we are with Floyd and Conor.
Dana White made his way on to Colin Cowherd’s show and revealed where exactly they are with Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. I have to say, I actually want this fight to happen now. If anything, because I never want to write about this again.
Colin Cowherd: Has one side agreed to it or are they both in flux?
Dana White: We’ll get the McGregor side done in the next couple of days. Then, I lock myself in a room for a couple of days with Team Mayweather and see what we come up with.
CC: Is it all about money at this point?
DW: It’s all about money.
CC: What is your projection for total purse?
DW: It depends on how much the fight sells. If it sells as well as I think it can, Floyd makes a little North of $100 million and Conor makes $75 million.
“I wanted to get McGregor locked in first because McGregor is under contract with me. At the end of the day, does this fight make a lot of sense for me? It really doesn’t. Conor wants this thing really bad. Kid has stepped up and saved some big fights for me, so I’m in. I’ll figure it out.
On the Conor side, we’re good. I need to figure out the Mayweather side. Maybe the Mayweather side can’t be done. I promised Conor I would do anything I could to make this happen, so that’s what I’m going to do.
It’s all anybody asks me about. So, I’m going to do my best to see if I can get this thing done. I’m not saying I can, but we’re trying to.”
This is actually the most telling interview about this fight that Dana White has had. Apparently, they are all good and locked up on the McGregor side of things. However, Dana hasn’t even begun to negotiate with Floyd’s team. It should be a slam dunk, based on what everyone has said they need. In my opinion, however, Floyd’s side is going to make things very difficult when it comes to negotiating.
There you have it. For now, Dana hasn’t even spoken to Floyd’s representatives, but everyone DOES want this fight.
