Demetrious Johnson open to superfight with Cody Garbrandt

The current, and only, UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson, has been so dominant in his division that the promotion dedicated last season’s The Ultimate Fighter to finding him a viable opponent.

While there has been talk from other fighters about following in the footsteps of Conor McGregor and trying to become a two-weight world champion, none have shown the ownership over their home division the way “Mighty Mouse” has.

So would the UFC’s #1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter consider making the jump to bantamweight to try for a second title? Johnson is on hand in Houston where tonight’s UFC Fight Night will take place and was asked this very question by NESN:

“Yeah definitely, if the money’s right. It’s always about the money aspect of it, you know. I need to have an incentive to go up and do it.”

While Cody Garbrandt and the bantamweight division weren’t specifically mentioned, moving up to bantamweight is the only viable option given Johnson’s size.

Johnson also disclosed that he is eyeing an octagon return at UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas.
