Derrick Lewis is a hit with the kids

Derrick Lewis, while pretty laid back, is one of the UFC’s most colorful characters. His interviews are full of sound bites and quotable moments, and his post-fight celebrations are animated and theatrical, and always a hit with the crowd.

It comes as no surprise then that “The Black Beast” has quickly become a fan favorite. It also helps that he has massive knockout power that gets the crowd on its feet when he starts throwing bombs.

The mixed martial arts fan base typically skews older, mainly the 18+ range. So it’s not often you see kids choosing MMA over cartoons or video games. But it’s not often that a fighter like Derrick Lewis comes along either.

Lewis decided to surprise his younger brother with a visit at school during lunch today, and to his surprise, he was every bit a star to the kids as their favorite super-hero or TV star.

It was a pretty cool moment for Derrick, and for his brother is now probably the most popular kid in school.

Lewis is coming off of a 2nd round knockout win over Travis Browne and has moved up a spot to #7 in the UFC heavyweight rankings.
