The excitement surrounding Bellator 172’s main event of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione was at a fever pitch. And just like that, it was gone. Scott Coker took to twitter moments ago to announce that the heavily hyped debut of Fedor Emelianenko has been canceled.
According to Coker, Mitrione fell ill hours ago and the promotion was unable to find a replacement on such short notice.
With the bout scrapped, the new main event of Bellator 172 is Josh Thompson vs. Patricky “Pitbull” Freire.
Any fans wanting to get a refund due to the cancellation can do so as long as they make a refund request before the event officially gets under way.
Sad news for Bellator as tonight was expected to be a momentous occasion. We hope Mitrione is back on his feet soon so that we can see these two go at it as soon as possible.
The rest of the card is set to go on as planned. Bellator 172 is just hours away, airing live and free on Spike at 9pm EST.
