If it’s any consolation, Tony Ferguson, we feel you. The (what we thought was) UFC lightweight champion went on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani today and aired out his displeasure about the mixed messages he is receiving from Dana White about his championship.
Dana has been going back-and-forth recently about Conor McGregor’s lightweight champion status; Which directly affects the championship status of Tony Ferguson. Is he the real champ or the interim champ? We aren’t sure and neither is he.
Ariel Helwani asked Tony if all the confusion bothers him.
“Yeah it bothers me. It bothers the shit out of me, straight up. I’m the f*cking champ and we don’t know if we’re fighting for the real belt or not. What the f*ck is that? Dana White is telling us one thing on one part of the curtain and on the other side he’s saying, no, Conor McGregor is the champion.”
It’s confusing for everyone involved, except McGregor. He basically seems to be the puppet master pulling all of the strings, which is a total bummer because he’s the most indecisive one in the entire equation.
