Frankie Edgar has seemingly sustained a facial injury that will require surgery.
Say it isn’t so! The Injury Bug reared it’s ugly head yet again, taking down a highly anticipated main event in the process. Frankie Edgar was set to meet Max Holloway at UFC 218 in December. However, as first reported by Combate and later confirmed by multiple sources, Edgar is out.
It’s not been announced by the UFC what the plans for Holloway will be. Jose Aldo is set to meet Ricardo Lamas and Cub Swanson is set to clash with Brian Ortega. So it’s not clear if the UFC would pull one of those guys out of their fights to replace Frankie. I, for one, would love to see a rematch between Holloway and Cub Swanson.
The two met back in 2015 and Cub is on quite a run since then, having won four in a row since that loss.
As soon as we hear something about a possible replacement, we’ll let you know. The UFC 218 card is available here.
