Gegard Mousasi has signed a six-fight contract with Bellator

“The Dreamcatcher” is heading to Bellator after signing with them.

People have been reporting that Mousasi has signed a free agent contract with Bellator. Just minutes ago, Gegard Mousasi appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani to make the announcement himself.  He stated he signed a six-fight deal to compete at Bellator.

Ariel asked Gegard if the deals were similar financially and Gegard responded with, “The UFC was getting close to the Bellator offer at the end, but it’s basically not just the money, I’ve worked with Scott (Coker) before. When Scott promises something he delivers, he’s an honest guy….what can I say, money was not just the only factor. Mention one fighter who says Scott hasn’t treated them fairly or that he’s a bad guy.”

Gegard was also quick to state that the “UFC has always treated me well, to be honest, Dana White has always talked good about me. I’m thankful to them at this point, they gave me the opportunity to be where I am today.”

It seems like it came down to the UFC’s choice to have Robert Whittaker fight for the interim title instead of him. He felt like Whittaker leapfrogged him in the rankings and he didn’t feel that was right.

It’s another really big signing for Bellator and a blow to the UFC roster. It will be interesting to see who Mousasi debuts against for Bellator, there are plenty of compelling options.  Bellator Middleweight Champion Rafael Carvalho has been put on notice. It’s going to be interesting.
