Joanna Jedrzejczyk ends her working relationship with Perfecting Athletes

Joanna Jedrzekcyk says her life was in danger during her UFC 217 weight cut.

Things didn’t work out for Joanna Jedrejczyk in her last fight at UFC 217. She lost her Strawweight title to Rose Namajunas after being stopped by TKO in Round 1. She accepted the loss and seems to have moved on. However, now there’s news that she had a harrowing experience during her weight cut that has caused her to sever her working relationship with Perfecting Athletes. She’s the second UFC fighter to end their relationship with the group. Ray Borg fired them after his issues prior to a fight with Demetrious Johnson, that he ultimately missed.

For Joanna, making 115 pounds has never been easy. She’s struggled with the cut before, but apparently, it paled in comparison to her cut at UFC 217. In a recent interview with a Polish news site, she spoke openly of the issues with the cut and her relationship with the fitness organization. The interview was in Polish and was transcribed by MMA Mania.

“People I worked with led me to critical condition. Now I’m just happy that I’m alive. I was screaming. It didn’t matter it was very late. The pain of putting my body back again in hot water was unimaginable. But I wanted to do it for everybody who wanted to see my fight. It’s a miracle I made weight. I was cutting weight for 14 hours. It was torture. I trusted them. Unfortunately, they failed and this mistake is unforgivable. I forgive them as a human because that’s who I am and probably our relationship will remain but I can’t cooperate with such people anymore.”

Joanna is expected to get an immediate rematch against Rose Namajunas, but she’s also hinted and moving up and going after the UFC’s newly minted Women’s Flyweight title. With the weight cuts as horrendous as they seem to be for her, maybe 125 is a logical next step.
