Jon Jones vs. Luke Rockhold reportedly in the works

Yes you read that right. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is reportedly working on booking a fight with former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. Just not in the UFC.

During his interview with Brendan Schaub on “The Big Brown Breakdown”, Chael Sonnen spoke a little bit about his grappling promotion, Submission Underground. When asked by Schaub if Jones was was giving any consideration to a call out by Dillon Danis, the jiu-jitsu coach of Conor McGregor, Chael gave an answer that will definitely peak fight fans’ interest.

While Sonnen mentioned Jones has no interest in that fight, he did let on that he’s working on another match:

“Jon will be back but his likely next opponent will be Rockhold.”

Chael also revealed that both Daniel Cormier and King Mo have lobbied for a match with Jones at Submission Underground but to no avail. Jones told Sonnen he wanted to save Cormeir for the octagon.

In December, Jon Jones defeated Dan Henderson in a grappling match at Submission Underground 2. It was after that victory that Luke¬†first challenged Jones to a grappling match. No word on how soon we would see a match between Jones and Rockhold materialize, but the fact that it’s being discussed is definitely exciting.

Chael will be stepping into the cage for the first time in 3 years when he faces Tito Ortiz at Bellator 170 this Saturday, January 21st, from The Forum in Los Angeles.
