Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto was seeking treatment for cancer at the time of his death
It’s with a very heavy heart that I report that Norifumi Yamamoto has passed away at age 41. The fighter known as “Kid” had recently gone public with the news that he was battling cancer. At the time of his death was receiving treatment in Guam. That news came from The Independent, a news site in the UK. His team, Krazy Bee announced his passing. Dana White also posted to his Twitter with the unfortunate news.

Kid Yamamoto as he was widely known began his career in stellar form. He was believed to be among the very best in the world. He opened his career in Shooto where he went a very impressive 6-1 before moving on to K1. His success continued there, putting together a 10-0 record for the promotion and winning the 2005 Middleweight Grand Prix.
He’s fought all around the world, including a stint in the UFC. Unfortunately for many fans here in the USA, they became familiar with him after he had reached the prime of his career and the fighter they saw in the UFC wasn’t the same Kid we all saw in Japan. He went 0-3 in the UFC with his first fight coming against Demetrious Johnson.
He will be remembered as a pioneer of the sport, and in my mind, one of the most exciting fighters I’ve seen compete. Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
