Leandro Higo missed weight, Bellator 177 main event will be non-title

You get a chance at a world title and you miss weight?

Leandro Higo missed weight this morning in Budapest, Hungary by four pounds.  Now his main event tilt with Eduardo Dantas is a non-title fight. Higo is making his promotional debut for Bellator, after stepping in to face Dantas on one month’s notice for injured Darrion Caldwell.

Higo will be fined 20 percent of his fight purse, and that money will go to champion Eduardo Dantas. The fight will still go on as planned. However, it will no longer be a championship fight.

Leandro Higo (17-2) is the current the Legacy Fighting Alliance Bantamweight champion.  He was signed by Bellator to compete for their Bantamweight title. Higo has won four fights in a row, and 9 of his last 10 fights heading into this fight with Dantas.

Eduardo Dantas (19-4) has won three consecutive fights, including becoming the Bantamweight champion by defeating Marcos Galvao and then defending the title successfully against Joe Warren.  He will be looking to defeat Higo in what now, no longer for his Bantamweight title.
