The UFC’s 5th ranked Bantamweight is all smiles after successful shoulder surgery.
Raquel Pennington, the #5 ranked Bantamweight in the UFC, underwent successful shoulder surgery Wednesday. The surgery took place in Colorado Springs, CO. Raquel injured the shoulder in her last fight at UFC 206 in a victory over Miesha Tate. She posted via Instagram earlier, and looked to be doing well in recovery.
Her division is currently in a state of flux. Two of the fighters above her in the rankings have either just lost, or are vacating the division. Ronda Rousey was just soundly defeated by Amanda Nunes in 48 seconds. Holly Holm who is currently ranked #4 is moving to 145 for an upcoming title clash against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208.
The injury thins out an already stretched division. The injury places 3 of the top 5 ranked fighters either on the shelf, or to the UFC’s newly created 145 pound division. It could be an interesting time for the UFC coming up with challengers to take on division kingpin Amanda Nunes.
One thing is for sure, whenever Raquel returns to the Octagon, she’ll be right in the title mix.
