Jimmy Smith is sticking around, Sean Grande has stepped down.
Things are pretty active at Bellator as they head into their Bellator NYC PPV event. They have added Mauro Ranallo and Mike Goldberg to their announce team. Yesterday Sean Grande, Bellator’s play by play announcer announced he was leaving the promotion. The increased Bellator workload was getting in the way of his work with the Boston Celtics, and time with his family.
Today, Bellator announced the signing of both Mauro Ranallo and Mike Goldberg to join Jimmy Smith on their announce team. It’s not currently clear who will be doing what. Will it be a three man team calling the action? Will one of them serve as a studio host? Time will certainly tell, but it is a pretty big move for Bellator to sign to icons in the business.
We’ve been wondering where Goldberg would land about being let go by the UFC unceremoniously after UFC 207. Him landing at Bellator seems a good fit, although I thought he might end up on AXS TV alongside Pat Miletich now that Michael Schiavello has stepped down. It’ll be great to see Goldberg back doing what he loves to do.
Mauro Ranallo was in the spotlight after he left the WWE. There was a lot of talk about him being bullied by James Layfield and that was the reason he left. He’s one of the best in the industry, and it’s great to see him at Bellator. It should be a great team, however, they choose to present them.
