Rankings Report: Lewis and Esparza trending in opposite directions

The UFC released its updated rankings today and UFC Fight Night Halifax caused quite a bit of movement in a number of divisions, as two of the night’s biggest names found themselves trending in opposite directions.

Derrick Lewis¬†climbed a spot in the heavyweight division to #7, passing Mark Hunt. Travis Browne, who was KO’d by Lewis in the 2nd round, slipped to #10.

The women’s strawweight division saw some serious activity as Carla Esparza dropped five spots, all the way down to #8. An even bigger jump was seen by Randa Markos, whose split-decision win over Esparza saw her go from unranked, to the #9 spot. Going from unranked to the top 10 in one weekend is a huge achievement for Markos.

Johny Hendricks found success in his middleweight debut with a unanimous decision win over Hector Lombard. Coming into the fight he was ranked #10 in the welterweight division. He has been officially removed from that division’s rankings, solidifying his move to middleweight.
