Real Quick, Retro Pick: Wanderlei Silva and Mark Coleman shaving each other

Schick lands Mark Coleman and Wanderlei Silva for Blue Metal.

What a wild time it was when Pride was being held in Japan. Bob Sapp was putting out hit records and the stars of Pride attained superstar status. There was so much money to be made in Japan during that time. The MMA scene dried up in America and Japan became the mecca for fighting. Back then, there were so many ways to make big money in Japan; Wanderlei Silva and Mark Coleman found one of those ways.

Fedor, Bob Sapp, Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva, and Mark Coleman were all HUGE stars in Japan. Aside from their fighting, they branched out into other genres. Only trumped by Mark Coleman riding a banana, was the commercial of him and Wanderlei Silva for Schick.

There’s a slim to no chance of finding out who the creative director was for the Schick commercial. It would be great to ask that person, “What were you thinking?” While Wanderlei Silva appears to go all in with his enthusiasm, Mark has that, “This is my lowest point” look.

No one could anticipate this video standing the test of time. Luckily, I am here to make sure that everyone enjoys the show. I would’ve loved to have been in the room when the director said, “OK Mark, you stand over there. Now, you and Wanderlei shave each other’s faces. No, no. It’ll be great. I promise.”

“Action!”
