This whole respectful Twitter thing could catch on, maybe not.
It’s pretty uncommon these days for fighters to take to Twitter and show each other respect while issuing a challenge. We’ve become numb to the typical trash talking back and forth until the fight is made, and then after months of ferocious banter, two fighters often have an anti-climatic clash in the cage. Yawn. However, we’ve not seen a respectful Twitter call-out, stop the presses.
David Branch took to his social media account to extend a simple request to fight Yoel Romero. Romero responded with similar respect and tagged the UFC matchmakers in the tweet. I really hope the UFC sets this fight up and rewards a couple of fighters for doing this classy and all.
It remains to be seen as to whether these tweets result in what should be an awesome fight, but I for one am hoping so. This would be a great fight between two fighters in the UFC’s top ten.
David Branch (21-4) came to the UFC and defeated Krzysztof Jotko and then lost his second fight to Luke Rockhold.
Yoel Romero (12-2) was on an eight-fight winning streak until his last bout when he was defeated by Robert Whittaker.
