Ronda Rousey’s statement following UFC 207

Ronda Rousey’s statement following UFC 207

Following Ronda Rousey’s vicious loss to UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the first round of the main event at UFC 207, pretty much everyone had their turn at offering their insights as to what Ronda should do next. Many thought she should call it quits and move on, while many others want her to continue in the octagon and reclaim her gold.

Finally it is Ronda’s turn to talk. After losing her title to Holly Holm at UFC 193, we didn’t hear from the former champ for quite sometime. This time, however, she has already opened up.

Read her full statement below. Whatever path she chooses, there’s no denying what she has done for not just women’s mixed martial arts, but the sport of MMA as a whole.

“I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me.

“Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes — even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly — it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda.

“I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”
