Sage Northcutt is one of the most popular fighters in the UFC
Per Urijah Faber and a report by Ariel Helwani, Sage Northcutt fulfilled his UFC contract with his victory over Zac Ottow at UFC’s event last weekend in Boise. He is currently without a deal in place and has the freedom to negotiate with the UFC or any other promotion he’d be interested in once his exclusive negotiating period with the UFC expires.
Typically a fighter has a 90-day lockout once he has fought his last fight under his current contract. Once that 90 days expires, a fighter is free to negotiate freely with other organizations. You would have to think the UFC will make it a priority to sign Northcutt. He’s young, popular, improving and someone they can build around. With the current trend of fighters acting like “heels” having an actual babyface is a refreshing option.
Sage is 6-2 in the UFC and 11-2 overall as a professional. He’s won three in a row and has shown vast improvement in each of those bouts since joining Team Alpha Male. They’ve developed his game and that partnered with his strength and stamina make him a tough fight for any Welterweight. He has also shown the ability to survive adversity. Ottow hurt him in the first round of their fight, and Sage fought back to control that round, and then get the KO stoppage in the following round.
Hopefully, he stays in the UFC, but if they drag their feet, he’d be a hot commodity elsewhere.
