SMH. Social media does it again. This time, an image of Marcos Maidana

The internet truly knows no shame. It’s not even just MMA websites who have no shame. Literally, the internet as a whole. While perusing Google this morning looking at news, I came across a sponsored ad with an image and a headline that did not match.

“This San Diego dad discovered a unique way to make money ‘sports investing’. He wins 82% of his picks by using this system.”

Then, there was a picture of a heavier man sitting with a small mountain of cash. Immediately I thought, “That’s Marcos Maidana”.

Maidana made a boatload of cash in his two fights with Floyd Mayweather and decided to wrap up his boxing career. It didn’t take long into his retirement for him to put on a few extra pounds. Then, he took a photo and posted it to social media in a sort of ‘Fat and happy’ kind of way.

The picture was lifted from his social media and then used for promotional purposes and I assume, without permission. So, Maidana now sits on the front page of Google as a ‘Dad who struck gold through gambling’.

Can we at least TRY to be better?
