Bellator says Chael Sonnen is a no go for SUG 3 match this weekend
Chael Sonnen is days removed from a first round submission loss to Tito Ortiz at Bellator 170. He also wears a promoter’s hat, and run Submission Grappling promotion is hosting SUG 3 this weekend in Portland, OR. Originally, one of the feature bouts was to be Hector Lombard facing off with submission specialist Garry Tonon.
Hector Lombard was forced to pull out of the event, and Chael decided to save his own show and step into the submission grappling match. However, Bellator, who has a substantial investment in Sonnen pulled the plug. It doesn’t benefit them at all for Sonnen to be submitted on consecutive Saturdays to kick off their working alliance.
It remains to be seen who, if anyone, they can find to step into the match on short notice.
MMA Journalist Ariel Hewani broke the news via his twitter account today. Here’s the tweet.
