Matt Serra and Ray Longo cornering audio during Al Iaquinta vs Khabib.

serra-ray-longo-cornering-audio-during-iaquinta-khabib

There is a reason why Matt Serra and Ray Longo have been together for so long. What they have together, works. From Matt’s days of fighting to now, both coaching fighters, they are a match made in heaven.

One of my favorite YouTube channels for behind-the-scenes stuff is Fight Affect and they posted the audio to the dynamic duo cornering Al Iaquinta in his fight vs Khabib. As you would expect, they are incredible.

If you have seen the fight, Iaquinta got beaten pretty handily by Khabib. This never stopped them from coaching him the whole way through and especially the support that they showed him in the loss.

Awesome stuff.

Musical Chairs, Al Iaquinta out, James Vick in versus Justin Gaethje

James Vick

Al Iaquinta notified the UFC he would not be fighting Geathje in Lincoln. The UFC turned to 11th ranked James Vick and plugged him into the fight. That leaves Paul Felder … Read moreMusical Chairs, Al Iaquinta out, James Vick in versus Justin Gaethje

UFC 223 Fight Motion video is absolutely spectacular

Fight Motion

The UFC Fight Motion videos are always, top notch

UFC 223 is in the books, and it will certainly be remembered as one of the craziest events in UFC history. There was plenty to talk about to be sure. Folks were kept busy with the forever rotating main event, Conor McGregor going coo-coo for cocoa puffs and so much more. That said, the action that mattered took place in the Octagon, and we were treated to some great fights.  Fight Motion takes us inside the octagon.

In the co-feature fight Rose Namajunas proved her first victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk was not a fluke, defeating her by unanimous decision to defend her Strawweight title. It was a great stand up fight that saw both fighters land a ton of shots. In the end, Rose did enough to convince the judges she’d won the fight. Joanna, however, disagreed.

In the main event, Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated Al Iaquinta from start to finish on his way to a very lopsided decision victory. The win moved Khabib to 26-0 and more importantly, made him the UFC undisputed Lightweight champion of the world.

I’m a big fan of the Fight Motion videos, and this one is no different. It captures the action in a way that really puts you inside the action.

Is Khabib fighting? If so, who? For a title? Nobody knows anything

Nobody Knows Anything

Conor McGregor and the NYSAC have thrown the UFC into chaos First, it was Conor going full berserker in Brooklyn yesterday, and now the NYSAC has followed suit today.  Max Holloway was told by the commission this morning he would not be cleared to fight due to their belief his weight cut would be too dangerous. … Read moreIs Khabib fighting? Holy crap! Raging Al Iaquinta goes on the MMA Hour and rips Dana White and the UFC.

Holy crap! Raging Al Iaquinta goes on the MMA Hour and rips Dana White and the UFC.

I’m not going to lie, when I saw that Raging Al Iaquinta was going to be on the MMA Hour today, I couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say. It all started on Saturday night after his UFC: Nashville fight. Al didn’t win any bonus for his knockout of Diego Sanchez and promptly went on Twitter to tell the UFC exactly how he felt about that.

He went on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani today and went off. Profanity laced and passionate, Iaquinta dug into the UFC and Dana white specifically.

Some excerpts from the show:

“I don’t know why they didn’t give it to me, because I really didn’t deserve it. Maybe they didn’t give it to me to kind of shaft me. They said in the past that I wasn’t eligible to win bonuses and maybe they’re just sticking it to me. The whole bonus thing is just ridiculous. The fact that they give $50k is their little way to control everybody. I don’t know. I don’t like it.”
“For a guy that puts it out there like me… I’ve never had a boring fight. I come to fight every time. I put on a show. 4 knockouts in a row… No bonus money. No shit. Nothing. They suck. Whatever.”
“What I’d like is to be financially set to where if I get hurt and am out for two years I don’t have to worry about teaching private lessons to pay my mortgage. Maybe something monthly? Is that crazy? I’m a professional freaking athlete. I just was on TV. FOX Sports 1, co-main event. $50 k is what I walk away with? There’s NFL players doing nothing making real money watching me. I’m the man. You are not.”
“Dana White has done a lot for this sport and for him to say, ‘The best part of UFC Brooklyn, was the flight home’. You were on a private jet, bro. Shut the f–k up. For most people that would be the highlight of their life. Forget the night. You were on a private jet, of course it was the highlight of your night. There’s guys fighting in the cage getting hurt. He owes an apology to all those motherf—-rs. That’s bullshit, shut your f—ing mouth.”
“For what we do… F–k man. Ellenberger got elbowed and he was unconscious for a while.  I was like, I don’t even want to fight. Do I really want to do this? I almost left the arena. He’s going to say the best part was the ride home?!? Shut the f–k up. Are you kidding me? Go f–k yourself.  Don’t ever talk about a fighter like that. You’re not a fighter. You don’t do it and you don’t know.”

You must listen to the full interview. Iaquinta is not playing around. Also, he wants to sell you a house.

Joe Rogan previews Al Iaquinta vs ‘Crazy’ Diego Sanchez

Joe Rogan previews Al Iaquinta vs 'Crazy' Diego Sanchez

TUF 1’s last man standing, Diego Sanchez is fighting Al Iaquinta tonight at Fight Night: Tennessee and he is still totally crazy. One would think that as he aged and became a father, he’d slow down. No dice. Diego Sanchez is a lunatic and he’s bringing that with him into his fight with Al Iaquinta.

Iaquinta has been retired for the last 2 years but was on a 4 fight win streak before he left. He remains confident in his abilities and what he feels he’ll be able to do to Sanchez.

“Diego Sanchez is a legend and I respect him. He’s a little older, but I’m young and hungry. I’m just a better fighter than him.”

Wide-eyed and passionate, Diego says:

“I could care less about his respect. I’m coming in there to take him out. I’m the predator, he’s the prey. I’m going for it. That’s the thing… Al doesn’t know what I’m going to do and neither do I.”

What a psycho. This contest has ‘Fight of the Night’ written all over it.
