Before their super featherweight boxing match, Alberto Machado and Rafael Mensah had a combined 49-0 record. Machado was 19-0 and Mensah was 30-0, so someone’s 0 had to go. It was Mensah who was on the receiving end of a first career loss. While their fight went to decision, Machado took Mensah out to the woodshed for 12 rounds.

Machado was sharp from start to finish and seemingly landed combos at will. This was Machado’s first defense of his WBA world super featherweight title and he made sure it was a blowout. He won the fight 120-107 and knocked down, staggered, and pummeled the game, but overmatched, Mensah.

Gervonta Davis next seems like the logical next fight for Machado. That one would be a barnburner!

Jezreel Corrales vs. Alberto Machado. Savage knockout!

HBO’s ‘Boxing After Dark’ provided a filthy knockout in the fight between Jezreel Corrales and Alberto Machado. Up to the point where Machado KO’d Corrales, the fight was close with both guys scoring heavy shots. In fact, Machado hit the deck in the fifth round.

The two fighters exchanged hard shots throughout and at one point in the sixth round, Corrales was out on his feet. Machado couldn’t put him away, however, because Corrales basically fell into Machado and hung on for dear life.

Machado landed the finishing blow in the eighth round. He was seemingly behind on the scorecards when he landed a short left hook that finished Corrales’ night. Despite Corrales being done, the referee executed the fastest count in boxing history.
