UFC Fight Night Halifax: Post-Fight Press Conference

UFC Fight Night Halifax post-fight press conference

UFC Fight Night from Halifax gave us plenty of noteworthy moments tonight. After all was said and done, the post-fight press conference created a number of quotable moments as well.

The night saw unranked Randa Markos shock the former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza by taking a split decision win from the #3 ranked contender.

Johny Hendricks had a successful middleweight debut with a unanimous decision win over Hector Lombard and could not have looked more thrilled upon hearing his name announced.

In the main event #8 ranked heavyweight Derrick Lewis knocked Travis Browne out cold in the 2nd round. The #9 ranked Browne was off to a good start but once Lewis started to land his punches it was game over for Browne shortly after.

The post-fight press conference kicked off with Johny Hendricks talking about how the night felt, his plans going forward, and Georges St. Pierre.

Hometown favorite Gavin Tucker talked about his UFC debut and what it felt like to finally step into the octagon for the first time. He also mentioned the name CM Punk.

The self-proclaimed interim heavyweight champion Derrick Lewis stole the show though. With his mini belt by his side, hearing him break down why he was holding his stomach early on might be the highlight of the night.

Michelle Waterson: Either Rose or Carla would lead to an interesting fight

Calling girls out isn’t Michelle Waterson’s style. After her stellar victory at UFC on FOX over Paige VanZant, she has been bombarded with questions regarding who is next.  She’s asking for anyone in the top 5, but narrowed it down to 2 girls in a recent interview with tmz sports.

Michelle Waterson: “I’ll narrow it down to 2 girls. I have ultimate respect for both ladies and I think both of them will be great fights… If they don’t give me Joanna Jedrzeczyk first, It will either be Rose (Namajunas) or Carla (Esparza). I think both of those ladies would be an interesting fight.”

Either of those fights makes sense for the Michelle Waterson. She’s been in fighting for close to 10 a decade and she just broke through the mainstream bubble. Strike when the iron is hot, as they say.

Waterson also addresses other subjects in her interview. She talks about being congratulated by Paige VanZant backstage after their fight, as well as crossing over and participating in things that are more mainstream.
