No one expected Chase Sherman vs the newcomer Rashad Coulter to wind up winning ‘fight of the night’. Especially with Eddie Alvarez fighting Dustin Poirier on the same card. In all fairness, Alvarez vs Poirier was well on it’s way to being FOTN. Then Alvarez threw about 3 illegal knees and the hopes of a bonus dissipated.
Sherman and Coulter earned that distinction from their back and forth heavyweight brawl. Sherman was killing Coulter’s legs in the first round. He landed unchecked leg kick after unchecked leg kick and when the round ended, Coulter could barely walk. Round 2 began and it was only a matter of time until Sherman scored a leg kick tko.
However, it never came. Somehow, Coulter stayed on his feet and began throwing bombs. Any and all defense was thrown out the window and they just scrapped. Ultimately, it ended when Coulter was ‘Nelmarked’.
What is ‘Nelmarked’? Tank Abbot folded Steve Nelmark at UFC 11.5 like an accordion. Since then, every time someone gets knocked out in that similar fashion, it’s known as ‘Nelmarking’.
