Cheick Kongo lands the short counter-left and that’s a wrap!

Tonight at Bellator 199, Cheick Kongo and Javy Ayala were on the bill and Cheick didn’t let the fans down. He landed a picture-perfect counter left hand that dropped Ayala in the first round, earning the TKO victory.

The win is sixth in a row for Kongo who now sports a record of 28-10 and moves up another notch in the Bellator Heavyweight rankings. With this win, he could find himself in a fight with whoever wins the Bellator HW Grand Prix. The short left is perfect, see for yourself.

The biggest news to come out of Bellator 172 was not the fights that took place, rather the one that didn’t. Fedor Emelianenko vs Matt Mitrione was scrapped just hours before Bellator 172 main even began. Mitrione fell ill with kidney stones and Scott Coker decided to pull the plug at the eleventh hour.

Fedor and Scott Coker fielded questions before any questions were asked to the fighters. As always, Emelianenko was his usual stoic self. You wouldn’t know if he was disappointed, happy, or thrilled that he didn’t get a chance to fight this evening.

Coker announced that Fedor’s sweater would be up for auction, with proceeds going to a non-profit organization that will be designated at a later date.

About halfway through the video; Josh Thomson, Patricky Freire, Cheick Kongo, Anatoly Tokov, and Mauricio Alonso all show up to answer questions.
