We may be entering the dawn of a new era in women’s boxing. It was Christy Martin and then Laila Ali. Now, it’s the stone cold killer, Claressa Shields. With a record of 4-0 and only 22 years of age, Shields is now the WBC and IBF Super Middleweight World Champion.
Shields took on the previously undefeated, Nikki Adler, of Germany. Shields delivered a thrashing to Adler in the course of five rounds, until the referee mercifully stopped the fight. It was such a lopsided bout that Adler only landed 6 punches to Shields’ 136.
The odds are good that she will next face Christina Hammer (21-0) next. For now, Shields gets to go home and put her belts next to her other hardware; Two Olympic gold medals.
