Lookin' for a fight

Dana, Matt Serra and Din head to Memphis for some hilarious shenanigans. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, I love the Lookin’ for a Fight series. Dana White: Looking for a Fight Season 3 Episode 1 in Cabo

Looking for a Fight

Looking for a Fight enters its third season in Cabo

Dana White: Looking for a Fight is back! The hilarious show featuring Dana White, Matt Serra and Din Thomas kicks off season three in beautiful Cab San Lucas, Mexico. Unfortunately, Dana was suffering the effects of his Ménière’s disease which causes extreme bouts of vertigo. If you don’t know what vertigo is, it’s no fun at all. You have a sense of constant spinning and an inability to get your bearings. It causes nausea in a lot of people as well.

That said, the fellas still had a good time. They went to a local street fair and tasted some of the local foods there. Dana wasn’t sure, I mean, I get it, I am not down for mystery meat outdoors in Mexico either, but they ate it, and said it was delicious. During this episode, Matt and Din swam with the dolphins, and one of the dolphins tried to get frisky with Din.  They all went out to eat and then went on a tequila tour tasting various shots of tequila.

Of course, they also attended some fights, where a very relaxed Donald Cerrone also just happened to be checking out. In the end, Elias Garcia got offered a contract. He’s the cousin of the Pettis brothers, Anthony and Sergio. It was a fun episode and Din Thomas did some wild things. Habanero sauce comes to mind.

Tyron Woodley Presents – Champ Life UFC 214, Episode 2

Champ Life

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley is back, with Episode 2 of Champ Life UFC 214

Tyron Woodley produces perhaps the best videos of any fighter in MMA. He understands what the fans want to see, and his production values are top notch. Whoever works on these with him are doing an incredible job.  Here he presents Ep. 2 of the UFC 214 Edition of the Champ Life series.

The episode opens with Tyron in the locker room post-UFC 214, getting his shoulder treated. It came out after the fight, that he injured his shoulder during the first round of his fight with Demian Maia.  He was still able to stuff all 21 of Maia’s takedown effects, and cruise to a unanimous shutout decision victory.

The video then takes a week prior to the fight and opens in New York City were Tyron is making an appearance on Sirius Radio on Sway’s Universe show. He’s nervous because he’s going to rap on the show, and as he says, he’s not a rapper. He actually does a good job, and Din Thomas is on hand to give him props as well.

We see him get a midnight workout in, before flying to Los Angeles. Tyron goes through the press conference, and all the media he has to do before the fight. Finally it’s fight day. The remainder of the video takes place during fight day, and wraps him post-fight at the press conference.  Check it out.

UFC 213 Embedded Vlog Series Episode One – Fight Camps

UFC 213 Embedded

It’s time again for the UFC’s vlog series, Embedded!

UFC 213 is three nights away, and the UFC has released their first in a series of UFC 213 Embedded videos, covering the fighter’s week ahead of the event. In episode 1, we start by seeing Robert Whittaker training and discussing his upcoming fight with Yoel Romero. He’s working hard and will compete for the Middleweight Interim Title Saturday night.

Next, we check in on Yoel Romero who talks about how he’s expected to lose to the younger fighter Whittaker. He tells the story of George Foreman fighting Muhammed Ali, and he says we know how that played out. Ali defeated the upstart George Foreman. Yoel looks ready to go and it should be a really exciting fight.

We transition to Valentina Shevchenko working out in a Las Vegas park. She’s running and then hitting pads. She looks really sharp and comments about not having to cut any weight. We then join her in The Range, a gun shop and shooting range in Vegas. She’s dangerous enough without a gun, but it turns out she’s a fantastic shot.  Her target has bullet groupings in the head and chest. Yikes.

We join Amanda Nunes in the UFC Performance Center, and she’s working out with her trainer Din Thomas.  Amanda works out and the episode ends with her drilling with her team.

Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight. Season 2, Episode 3. San Diego.

The guys make it out to San Diego, Lookin for a fight.

The latest episode of Dana White’s Lookin’ for a Fight takes place in San Diego. The guys spend a day on the water amongst other ridiculous adventures.

I am actually from San Diego and friends with both Din Thomas and Matt Serra. I had not seen both in quite some time, so I made the trip to the ‘Observatory’ where the fight card was held. I knew they were filming the show so I asked them what craziness they got into when they were here. Word for word, this is what Matt Serra said:

“I don’t know. They had us on a boat all f*****g day. We did some shit with f*****g boats on the water. Look at how sunburnt I am.”

Literally, it was the most Matt Serraish thing ever said. From the looks of the latest video, the guys all did more than just go sailing. As usual, hilarity ensued.

Dana White’s Looking for a Fight: Season 2 Episode 2 – Sturgis

Looking for a Fight

“Welcome to Sturgis Motherf*cker!” ~ Matt Serra

On this episode of Dana White’s Looking for a Fight, the team hits the open road in Sturgis, SD. They do some Harley riding, check out a stunt show and spend some time at Mt. Rushmore. They then pack up and head for Atlantic City to catch some hot MMA action and look for someone to sign.  As always, it’s a heck of a ride and an absolute blast.

Also, for the record, nobody in the history of this great planet, has ever made riding in a sidecar look remotely as majestic as Matt Serra. He’s in a class all his own. Check out the video!

Looking for a fight Season 2 Episode 2 Preview: “Welcome to Sturgis”

Looking for a Fight

Dana White, Matt Serra and Din Thomas hit Sturgis….yikes!

The popular UFC Youtube series, Dana White’s Looking for a Fight returns on April 10th, with the second episode of this, the second season.  Dana White, Matt Serra and Din Thomas hit the Sturgis, SC motorcycle rally.  In the 30 second preview clip, Matt Serra is seen riding in a sidecar, looking like a star.  I don’t know if you know this or not, it’s not easy to look cool in a sidecar. Serra, makes it cool.

Basically the 3 attend the rally, grab some great grub and then go and check out some local fights. It’s a really fun show and one of the my favorite things that the UFC produces.

Check out the clip, and we’ll have the show for you when it drops on the 10th!

UFC 209: Champ Camp Season 3 Episode 3

tyron woodley champ camp

Another episode of  Tyron Woodley’s Champ Camp.

Mixed Martial Arts fighters are more and more taking their marketing and promotion into their own hands. There are fighters who do video blogs, and then there is Tyron Woodley’s Champ Camp.  It’s time and time again one of the highest quality, best-produced video series on the web.  This episode is no different.

Woodley is training for his fight at UFC 209 with Stephen Thompson as Rufassport. We then see Woodley preparing a meal with his new training partner, Sage Northcutt.  These two need a buddy cop movie really bad. Poor Sage, he just wants to work out and do flips, but Tyron has him washing chicken feet in the sink.  Yes, chicken feet, complete with their claws. Sage doesn’t seem convinced that this is something he needs to eat.  It’s pretty funny.  Din Thomas is also in the mix, and the three of them together are magic.

Tyron, Din and Sage go to a local elementary school and Tyron gives the kids a talk, giving back to his community. After he’s finished, they fighters stay and sign autographs, it’s a positive insight into what drives Woodley, and what makes him tick.

After they leave the school, we’re back in the gym with Tyron and Sage drilling some wrestling.  It’s good to see Ben Askren working with them as well. He is among the best Welterweights in the world and has long been deserving to be in the UFC.

We see Tyron go through a litany of media responsibilities and interview, and weigh-ins and what has to be a grind of monumental levels.  He’s through it all, and it’s almost time to fight.

We see him after the fight, and he tells the story that Evan Shoman shared here, about giving his belt to a mother who had lost her daughter. It’s a touching story, and more reason to both admire and respect Tyron Woodley.  Check out the video.

A Look Back at BJ Penn’s 2015 Hall of Fame Speech

BJ Penn 2015 Hall of Fame Speech

BJ Penn 2015 UFC Hall of Fame Video

With the return of “The Prodigy” BJ Penn just a bit more than a week away, let’s take a look back at his amazing 2015 UFC Hall of Fame induction speech.  He’s long been considered one of the best ever, and his return is highly anticipated.

Penn’s illustrious career contains wins over the likes of Din Thomas, Caol Uno, Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie, Sean Sherk, Kenny Florian, Jens Pulver and the great Matt Hughes.   He is a former two division UFC Champion, having held the belts in both the Lightweight and Welterweight divisions.  BJ also holds the rare honor of being ranked the number 1 contender in two weight classes.  The list goes on and on when it comes to his amazing accomplishments.

Some people always said he did not do all he could with his amazing talent.  To that BJ responds in his speech, “I did more.  I achieved everything I ever wanted.”  It’s hard to argue with that.

Fellow UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes introduces Penn after a brief introduction with Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta.  It’s a reminder of why we all love BJ Penn and his sense of humor, spirit and undeniable drive to succeed.
