The President of these United States ‘Pardons Jack Johnson’ was not something I thought I would see today. Flanked by Sylvester Stallone, Lennox Lewis, and Deontay Wilder; The President corrected what he felt was an injustice done to Johnson over 100 years ago.
In the early 1900’s, Johnson violated the ‘Mann Act’, which was “transporting women across state lines for immoral purposes”. However, despite being immoral before the Mann Act was passed, Johnson was convicted by a jury of his peers; An all-white jury.
Johnson was to serve prison time, but he skipped the country and fought elsewhere. He returned seven years later and served his one-year prison sentence. Today, he received a full pardon.
