Edson Barboza’s gut wrenching body shot KO of Dan Hooker

edson-gut-wrenching-body-dan-hooker

If you missed Dan Hooker getting knocked out by Edson Barboza you missed a brutal gut wrenching KO. What’s even crazier is that Hooker received way more shots to the breadbasket before the knockout and stayed standing. However, in typical Edson Barboza fashion, he chopped Hooker down over time.

Amazingly, with all the damage Barboza did and Hooker being a damn Terminator, these two guys were robbed of Fight of the Night honors. If a fight makes you wince when shots are landed and ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’… FOTN should be academic.

All I know is that Dan Hooker’s body and legs will never be the same after sharing a cage with Edson Barboza. My goodness.

Relive the KO of the decade. Barboza on Etim KO is a heads-up for noobs

decade-barboza-etim-heads-noobs

The UFC has it listed as the ‘KO of the week’ on their YouTube channel, but I’m here to let you know that it’s so much more than that. For the fans who have been around forever and not just when Conor McGregor showed up, the knockout that Edson Barboza landed on Terry Etim could be classified as the ‘KO of the decade’.

This knockout was what really put Edson Barboza on the map. While he won his first UFC fight via TKO by way of leg kicks, we hadn’t really seen what Barboza was capable of. That fight was buried in the unaired portion of the fight card (yes, we used to have to check MMA sites for results because they weren’t aired) and his next two fights were decision wins.

Then came the Etim fight… Fans were blown away because no one had ever seen a kick straight out of the movies, come to real life. Barboza threw the now famous spinning back kick and Etim was out on his feet. He fell like a tree alone in the woods and the spinning-back-kick-walk-off-knockout was born.

Edson Barboza fights in the co-main event against Dan Hooker this weekend at UFC Fight Night, Milwaukee.

It’s also important to note that fighters who have missed weight are 9-1 in their last 10 fights.

It’s now being said that Leslie Smith has turned down the 20 percent of Ladd’s purse to still fight her. The fight might not take place after all.

Edson Barboza’s corner during his fight with Khabib

edson-during-corner-fight-khabib

All throughout the fight between Edson Barboza and Khabib Nurmagomedov, nobody felt as helpless as Barboza, except for his corner. What a nightmare that must be. Every single direction you shout out is getting completely negated by your fighter’s opponent.

You can hear the desperation in Ricardo Almeida’s voice as he shouts ANYTHING that may help Barboza. Ultimately, we know the result was a unanimous decision loss for Edson. However, do you know what the scores were?

30-25, 30-25, 30-24

That score is literally the epitome of a dominant performance by Khabib. It means that one judge had Barboza losing three 10-8 rounds, while the other judges saw two 10-8 rounds and one 10-9 round. So, to be in the corner of a fighter that was so dominated… Well, you have the video and can see how miserable it was.

UFC 219: Khabib Nurmagomedov – The Eagle is Hungry video

Khabib Nurmagomedov

UFC releases video: Khabib Nurmagomedov – The Eagle is Hungry.

We’re only two days removed from UFC 219 and the amazing clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Edson Barboza. With a victory, you can almost assume Khabib will finally earn his UFC Lightweight title shot. He’d be 25-0 and with wins in his last few fights against Barboza, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Michal Johnson. He’s proven himself more than deserving. The UFC has released a video interview with him and Megan Olivi called, Khabib Nurmagomedov – The Eagle is Hungry.

Whether you believe Khabib ate his way out of a title shot at UFC 209 or not, the fact remains he is here, seemingly in great shape and ready to unleash hell on anyone in his way. He appeared not too long ago on the super popular Real Quick with Mike Swick Podcast and if you haven’t seen it, I’d encourage you to check it out here.

Khabib and Edson Barboza will fight in the co-main event of the night. In the main event Cris “Cyborg” Justino will put her Featherweight title on the line against Holly Holm. It should be a great night of MMA action.

Edson Barboza’s been doing Muay Thai since before HD TV’s

edson-muay-thai-since

Edson Barboza has been legitimately doing Muay Thai longer than most of you have been alive. He hasn’t been just ‘doing’ it either; He’s been killing it.

You look at this little kid and see a talented martial artist. Little did anyone know that he’d grown into one of the most savage lightweight fighters in the world on the cusp of a #1 contender fight.

Barboza has been doing this for what seems like forever. In fact, his knockout of Terry Etim is still one of the top knockouts in UFC history. It’s been six years since that highlight reel KO and Barboza is still taking names.

Edson Barboza fights Khabib Nurmagomedov this Saturday night at UFC 219 from Las Vegas, NV.

UFC’s KO of the Week. Edson Barboza vs Beneil Dariush.

week-edson-barboza-beneil-dariush

Damn, I almost forgot about this knockout and it wasn’t even that long ago. Thanks to the UFC hyping Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Edson Barboza, they posted the ‘KO of the Week’ which features Edson Baboza’s fight with Beneil Dariush.

The fight took place nine months ago in Fortaleza, Brazil. So many wild fights and finishes have happened since then that it completely slipped my mind. I remember watching the fight thinking that Dariush was on his way to winning a decision. He kept pressing forward on Barboza and Edson was having some trouble getting off.

In the second round, Dariush shot in and Barboza timed it perfectly. He hit that nasty jumping knee and added one more to the highlight reel.

It will be interesting to see if he can neutralize Khabib’s ground game on December 30th.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Training Camp at AKA, Episode 3

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib Nurmagomedov takes you inside the walls of AKA where iron sharpens iron.

Khabib’s youtube series isn’t only interesting because it gives a unique insight into one of MMA’s most compelling fighters, but it also takes you inside one of the elite gyms on earth, AKA in San Jose, CA. Khabib Nurmagomedov is preparing for a fight at the end of the month against Edson Barboza.

Khabib talks a lot about how often he is helped by the other members of the team, and how he, in turn, is able to help them. It seems like a really close group and they have some of the best of everything. Grappling with Daniel Cormier, striking and top position with Luke Rockhold. It’s a place where the elite gathers to make each other better.

Khabib was recently on The Real Quick with Mike Swick Podcast, you can see that by following this link.
