The Red King – Becoming Two-Weight World Champion documentary

The Red King

Bitcoin followed Rory MacDonald for his entire camp to make this film.

Rory MacDonald will attempt to become a two-weight World Champion this weekend in San Jose, CA. He’s currently the Welterweight for Bellator and will attempt to take the Middleweight title from Gegard Mousasi Saturday night. Rory was a mainstay in the UFC and has been in some of the most memorable wars in the sport. Now there’s a short 20-minute documentary called The Red King that shows his training for the fight.

Bitcoin followed Rory and made this film about his life leading up to this fight. There are some parts where their involvement is pretty obvious. Rory orders some items through them on Amazon.com and speaks in depth about how BitCoin functions. That said, it’s a unique look into the life of a dedicated fighter.

Bellator 206 takes place this Saturday night. The card can be seen here.

From Bitcoin

Rory MacDonald takes part in a historic fight at Bellator 206 against Gegard Mousasi. He moves up one weight class to challenge for a second belt.

We had the opportunity to follow Rory and have access to his training & personal life ahead of the bout. This is what we captured.

Bellator goes all-in on the superfight action. Mousasi to face MacDonald

bellator-superfight-action-mousasi-macdonald

It looks like Bellator is on board with the current trend of superfight madness. Champion vs champion fights have proven to be something that fans will tune in for. Scott Coker is no dummy and has always listened to the fans and delivered what they want. Both Rory MacDonald and Gegard Mousasi have expressed interest in a champ vs champ fight and now, it is going to happen.

ESPN first broke the news:

“The promotion has booked a fight between middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi and welterweight champion Rory MacDonald on Sept. 29 in San Jose, Calif., multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.
Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi will put his 185-pound belt on the line Sept. 29 when he faces welterweight champion Rory MacDonald in San Jose. Per Haljestam/USA TODAY Sports

The fight will be contested at 185 pounds and Mousasi’s middleweight title will be on the line.”

Yesterday, Wanderlei Silva announced that he will be fighting Rampage Jackson again. Clearly, Scott Coker and Bellator realize that while MMA is a sport, fans want to be entertained. There is no doubt that these moves are 100% for fan entertainment.

Coker and company should be commended for thinking outside of the box.

Bellator 200 conference call. Cro Cop, Nelson, Mousasi, and Carvalho

bellator-conference-call-cro-cop-nelson-mousasi-carvalho

Bellator held a Bellator 200 conference call. The main and co-main event fighters were all on the line. Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson, Gegard Mousasi, and Rafael Carvalho (via translator) all get their talking time in and all were on their best behavior.

Cro Cop and Nelson already fought in 2011 and Cro Cop lost via TKO. Cro Cop has been on a tear since he retired/unretired/retired/unretired and he’s looking to avenge the loss from 2011. Nelson most recently lost to Matt Mitrione three months ago in the opening round of the Bellator heavyweight tournament. This fight between the two will decide who earns the alternate spot in the tourney if there is an injury.

Mousasi had a tough outing in his Bellator debut fight against Alexander Shlemenko, however, he still earned the victory. Mousasi is currently on a six-fight win streak going into his fight with Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. Carvalho is on a fifteen-fight win streak after only losing his debit fight in 2011. Mousasi will easily be the toughest test in Carvalho’s career.

Mousasi and Bisping interview with Florian in the middle stirring the pot.

Mousasi and Bisping interview with Florian in the middle stirring the pot.

During their UFC on FOX interview, Kenny Florian happily sits between Gegard Mousasi and Michael Bisping, gladly stirring the proverbial pot. We are not going to give you a misleading title saying that Mousasi and Bisping had a heated argument. That’s just not our style here at MikeSwick.com.

What we will tell you, is that Bisping and Mousasi love to insult each other. Both have a smile on their face as they take pot shots at the other guy. Kenny Florian has the best job in the world, as he gets to sit there and read insulting quotes that Bisping and Mousasi have said about one another.

The result is a highly entertaining interview where we learn that Gegard still hasn’t signed with the UFC. Gegard says he’s one of the best and should get paid like one of the best. It’s hard to argue that.

The savagery comes out, however, when Bisping tells Gegard that he got knocked out by Uriah Hall. Gegard responded with,

“Sometimes the best fighter doesn’t always win. Look what happened with you and Luke Rockhold.”

Damn, Gegard. You did him like that?
