ggg vs. canelo alvarez

The fighters will hit the scales at 2:30 PM PST

As the boxing world anticipates the rematch of GGG vs. Canelo Alvarez we’re minutes removed from them weighing in. Both fighters are expected to make their Middleweight mark and in doing so, it clears the last hurdle in this fight taking place. It has been postponed, delayed, canceled and rescheduled but we’re finally here. Alvarez tested positive for a banned substance at one point, postponing the fight. He won an appear however so the show goes on. Tomorrow night the rematch takes place and it should be amazing.

The weigh-ins are going to be available live right here at 2:30 PM PST and will be available on demand beyond that.

The two met for the first time in September of 2017 in what was a hotly contested and wildly controversial draw. Judge Adelaide Byrd turned in one of the more questionable scorecards in boxing history, and there was a major outcry to have her terminated as a judge. The general thought this time around is it’s going to be another great fight.

GGG is currently the odds-on favorite to win.

GGG vs Canelo slated for September, says Oscar de la Hoya

Don’t worry friends, GGG vs Canelo Alvarez wasn’t cancelled, it was just rebooked. Oscar de la Hoya confirmed to TMZ that the two boxing stars will square off in September.

Initially, Alvarez was busted for a doping violation, as an illegal substance was found in his bloodstream. Like most fighters who venture to Mexico, his team claimed that it was tainted meat that caused the drug test to come back positive.

If this was the UFC, Canelo would be subjected to huge fines and cancellations. However, this is boxing. Not much will happen, except the fight will be moved to September instead of May.

Thanks for the heads up, Oscar!

GGG still willing to fight Canelo, despite thinking he’s a cheater

In a new interview with Gennady Golovkin, he states that he feels that Canelo Alvarez is a habitual drug cheat. Despite that, he still wants to fight him.

GGG claims that doctors (and other people) have sent him pictures and videos showing injection marks on Canelo’s stomach. He also says that Canelo was popping pills for muscle enhancement. However, he only seems to be focused on what he does, personally.

“I know I’ve never used medicals. I like a clean sport.”

Dan Rafael from ESPN reported other things that GGG said that were not in the video, yet very telling of his feelings about Canelo.

“Again with Mexican meat? Come on. I told you, it’s not Mexican meat. This is Canelo. This is his team. This is his promotion. Canelo is cheating. They’re using these drugs, and everybody is just trying to pretend it’s not happening.

This guy, he knows. This is not his first day in boxing. He proves he gets benefits from everyone and he can get away with it. Check him on a lie detector and then we can find out everything.”

While it all seems to irk him a bit, ultimately, he just wants to fight and it doesn’t matter if his opponent is clean or not.

Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez: Final press conference

Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez: Final press conference

We are only a few days away from the biggest boxing match of the year. Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez take to the stage in the final press conference before their fight on Saturday, September 16.

It needs to be noted that boxing pressers are totally different than MMA pressers. Do not expect cans of Monster Energy and bottled waters being hurled between combatants. Usually, these press conferences consist of two fighters sitting there while everyone else talks about how great their networks and other companies are.

At one point during this presser, Canelo can be seen drawing pictures while he waits.

Dana White says McGregor and Mayweather date scooped by GGG and Alvarez

McGregor and Mayweather date

White said the Sept. 16th date announced for GGG vs. Alvarez, was Conor/Mayweather date.

Well, if you take what Dana White is saying at face value, things have been developing behind the scenes with the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight. After Canelo Alvarez’ lackluster victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Saturday night, it was announced that Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin would take place September 16th.  While that is a MEGA fight, it seems to trump the McGregor and Mayweather date.

Dana White was in Vegas at the Alvarez fight Saturday night and spoke to Fight Hub TV and said: “We just lost our date to Canelo and GGG, but that’s good, that’s a good fight.” He went on to say that he’d definitely be attending that fight as well.  So even though it seems as if September 16th is a no-go for Conor and Floyd, it does seem to add credibility to the fact that the fight is moving forward.  Check out the video.

For boxing fans, Canelo Alvarez and GGG is a MEGA fight that will draw huge numbers.  The only fight that could compete with those numbers would be Floyd and Conor.  If it ever comes to pass. So even though it seems as if September 16th is a no-go for Conor and Floyd, it does seem to add credibility to the fact that the fight is moving forward.  Check out the video.
