Gerald Harris shares with us a look into his torn achilles recovery

Gerald Harris slammed Aaron Cobb through the mat at the final Legacy show ever. That slam landed Gerald a spot on the next Ultimate Fighter series. He put in years of hard work to get this opportunity again and tore his achilles at the eleventh hour.

The video shows Harris doing a test run to see if he can cut from 194 pounds to 170 pounds. He does it and at the same time, rides the high of welcoming another child into the world. Everything looked to be going his way, until devastation struck.

Watching him speak about not being able to compete on TUF 25 is heart wrenching. You really have to feel for his misfortune. Although, he concludes the video with a smile, knowing it will all eventually be okay. THAT, we like to see.

Gerald “Hurricane” Harris Torn Achilles Tendon Recovery video blog. Week 3, SURGERY!

Our main man Gerald ‘Hurricane’ Harris is back. He just posted his latest torn achilles video blog. This episode features the dreaded surgery.

Gerald has been documenting the entire process. It begins after the initial tear, to what will hopefully be his comeback fight. Gerald is taking the whole thing in stride and seemingly has a very positive attitude. Gerald is a professional stand-up comedian so you know there will be laughs. Especially when his buddy says,

“You put lotion on those ashy ankles?”

Gerald’s father shows up to support his boy, as do many of his other friends and family. The surgery is a success and the post-op Gerald Harris is a mess. It’s an especially nice touch when he pretends to drive while he’s in a wheelchair, bumping:

“They see me rollin’ they hatin’.”

Our friend Gerald Harris has been king enough to let us post and follow his road to recovery. Gerald tore his achilles tendon and opted to skip surgery. After speaking with doctors this week he found out that surgery is the safest, easiest, and quickest way to make his way back to the cage.

In this video Gerald gets a visit from his long time pal, King Mo. We’ve heard rumors for years about Mo eating anything and everything, with no recourse. The rumors appear to be true, as he sits down and chugs an entire liter of Pepsi.

Harris also shares with us what he’s been using to get around. What looks to be a reverse tricycle is one of the goofiest things we’ve ever seen. Gerald doesn’t seem to mind.

“People be hating on it, but it’s cool. I just need a horn, that’s all I need.”

Right. Because a horn is the missing element in making that ‘Rascal’ look cool.

"Do unto others". Gerald Harris feeds the homeless in a random act of kindness.

The video Gerald Harris just posted shows us a humanitarian. He says he may be shutting his channel down, so I hope this makes it out there before he gets rid of it. If it inspires people to be better, this video should stay up forever.

My 2016 KO of the Year winner Gerald Harris went for a run and did not like what he saw. Homeless people sleeping on the streets hit Gerald like a ton of bricks. He went and got food for them and handed out meals.

Sports stars like Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather can’t wait to get in front of the camera to brag about how rich they are. Meanwhile, guys like Gerald Harris use the little money they have and pay it forward to their fellow man.

“I’m not doing this video for publicity. The reason I’m recording this is so hopefully somebody else does this for somebody, some day.”

2016 was a rough year for everyone, as we seem to hit a new low. There was so much hate and negativity in the news on a daily basis. You almost forgot that there were people doing good deeds out there. This video shows that there is still a bit of virtue left in the world.

That virtue comes in the shape of Gerald ‘Hurricane’ Harris and he is one of ours.

MikeSwick.com's Best of the Year: 2016

In short, 2016 could have been better. MMA saw the unfortunate and unnecessary passing of some good people. The UFC was sold by Zuffa. Conor McGregor got bigger. USADA made people get smaller.
