The Warmaster, Josh Barnett, has had a career filled with false claims against him and his supplement use. His most recent case has been no different. USADA has made their short career as the drug regulator of the UFC, virtually intolerable and embarrassing. According to Josh, he has proven that his most recent suspension was 100% caused by tainted supplements.
Josh joined the Joe Rogan Podcast and explained his innocence.
“I’m still dealing with my USADA stuff. The supplement I took was tainted. After they tested the one I gave them, they went out and bought a whole brand new bottle, unopened, tested that one. Again, laced with the same shit. They had tested me with not that much time in between tests. My manager told me that the guy at the lab said it was such a negligible amount. It looked like whatever I had taken had been tainted in the first place. He said there is no reason why a guy my size would even bother to have such a negligible amount of whatever this shit is in my system.”
Joe Rogan: “To explain that… Between the last test and this test it would be such a small amount that there was no way you were on something and cycled off.”
“Exactly. It didn’t make any sense. I’ve spent, like, two grand having supplements tested. Just in case, I keep bits of everything I take and keep it around. This was a brand I’d taken before. This was a supplement that had been an ingredient in other stuff that I’ve never had a problem with. I always checked the label with their Global DRO thing. I would do all their steps about cross-referencing this, that, and the other. Always ok. I was making sure I was always being upfront and doing what they said So, I got some bullshit in something I didn’t expect. So we test it, they back their findings up with a completely brand new bottle and batch. I’m still suspended, but I don’t understand what more I can do.”
This wasn’t the first time Josh has been screwed with, in regards to drug testing. When the CSAC was at its peak of scumbaggery and corruptness, Josh popped for an anabolic steroid and subsequently, Affliction MMA cancelled his scheduled fight with Fedor. Then, they cancelled the event. Ultimately, they folded the entire organization. Josh was the scapegoat in what was Affliction’s way out of getting out of the MMA fighting business. After Josh first received a suspension at his young age of 20, Josh was meticulous about what he put in his body.
CSAC was headed up by Armando Garcia who stole money, sexually harassed employees, and was just an overall scum of the Earth. After he stepped down (He wasn’t fired) the CSAC was in disarray and left reeling. Six months later, while in shambles, Josh was accused of taking a banned substance and Affliction closed their doors almost immediately. What an interesting coincidence. So was the miscommunication handled by the CSAC towards Barnett afterward, including postponing his hearing four times.
Now, at 39 years of age, Josh Barnett has to once again defend himself against suits with egos making rules OUTSIDE of the cage.
