EA UFC 3 adds 5 iconic fighters to their roster. 4/5 are or were in Bellator

iconic-fighters-roster-bellator

The UFC and EA have added 5 new characters to their EA UFC 3 video game. It seems like a move to slap the face of Bellator, but who really knows at this point? Tito Ortiz, Mirko Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva, Kimbo Slice, and Matt Serra are the iconic fighters that have been added to the game and sans Matt Serra, none are connected to the UFC in any way, shape or form.

Tito Ortiz was signed to Bellator before he retired and then unretired to fight Chuck Liddell under the Golden Boy banner. Cro Cop is currently signed to Bellator and so is Wanderlei Silva. Kimbo Slice has passed away but was last employed by Bellator as well.

This is an odd move for the UFC as the aforementioned named have all been cut by or have verbally bashed the UFC. I get wanting to give fans what they want in a video game, but this move seems a little premeditated to me. It feels like when Jon Fitch was fired for not wanting to sign all of his likeness rights away to the UFC for fear of them being able to use them in the future because something like THIS could happen.

Again, this is an odd move but I guess making money off of the fighter names and appeasing fans is the driving force in it. Regardless, these fighters are now available to play in the new UFC video game.

Bellator 200 conference call. Cro Cop, Nelson, Mousasi, and Carvalho

bellator-conference-call-cro-cop-nelson-mousasi-carvalho

Bellator held a Bellator 200 conference call. The main and co-main event fighters were all on the line. Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson, Gegard Mousasi, and Rafael Carvalho (via translator) all get their talking time in and all were on their best behavior.

Cro Cop and Nelson already fought in 2011 and Cro Cop lost via TKO. Cro Cop has been on a tear since he retired/unretired/retired/unretired and he’s looking to avenge the loss from 2011. Nelson most recently lost to Matt Mitrione three months ago in the opening round of the Bellator heavyweight tournament. This fight between the two will decide who earns the alternate spot in the tourney if there is an injury.

Mousasi had a tough outing in his Bellator debut fight against Alexander Shlemenko, however, he still earned the victory. Mousasi is currently on a six-fight win streak going into his fight with Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. Carvalho is on a fifteen-fight win streak after only losing his debit fight in 2011. Mousasi will easily be the toughest test in Carvalho’s career.

It looks like Scott Coker believes in being prepared. MMA is a crap shoot and fights seem to fall apart more often than come to fruition these days. So, Coker decided that Mirko Cro Cop will fight Roy Nelson at Bellator 200 and the winner will get an alternate spot, just in case. It looks as if Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic isn’t retired after all

Retiring in MMA is basically a hiatus. No one really leaves. Mirko Filipovic proves once again that fighters can’t stay away from the fight (and money). RIZIN CEO, Nobu Sakakibara, announced on his Twitter today, that Cro Cop is coming back. Again. Pride FC Knockout compilation: Pride Never Die Week

Pride FC Knockout

Since it’s Pride Never Die Week on FightPass, here’s some of the best Pride KO’s

For those of us who were really into Pride. It was like a religion.  Any weekend a Pride event fell on became special and can’t miss.  I watched every single event like it was Christmas and I was a little kid waiting for what were certain to be amazing MMA gifts.  The UFC purchased Pride, and in doing so killed their chief rival. It lives on however in the minds and memories of those who loved it.  It’s Pride Never Die week on UFC’s FightPass (which seems ironic) but to kickstart the memories, here is a great video featuring more than one amazing Pride FC knockout.

Real Quick, Retro Pick: Mirko Cro Cop scares the life out of Mauro Ranallo

Real Quick, Retro Pick: Mirko Cro Cop scares the life out of Mauro Ranallo

Apparently, it sucked to be the new guy in Pride. Such was the case for new Pride announcer, Mauro Ranallo. At his expense, Bas Rutten and Mirko Cro Cop decided to have some fun with him.

As you can tell from the video, there was nothing fun about the situation for Mauro. Ranallo, who looks as if he’s never so much as punched a heavy bag in his entire life, gets roasted by Cro Cop. Not only was Mirko’s size intimidating, but at that time he was one of the top 3 heavyweights in the world. On top of that, he had a stoic Croatian demeanor. All of these variables contributed to the perfect shit storm to ruin Ranallo’s day.

While the video is hilarious, you still feel kind of bad for Ranallo. Bas was just playing a prank on him and Cro Cop executed it perfectly. In fact, it was too perfect.

RIZIN 2016 GP Final Weigh-In Highlights: Cro Cop No-Showed.

RIZIN 2016 GP Final Weigh-In Highlights: Cro Cop No-Showed.

There is never a dull moment in Japanese MMA. Ever. Sometimes, even weigh-ins can be a spectacle. That’s exactly what the 2016 Rizin GP weigh-ins were. There was one noticeable absence, however. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović was a no-show.

Big lovable Baruto was left all by himself on the weigh-in stage, as his opponent Mirko Cro Cop did not make an appearance. Fear not, there were still many things to talk about.

The part that has the internet buzzing is the matchup between Gabi Garcia and Yumiko Hotta. Hotta weighed in at about 171 pounds and she’s 5’6. Gabi Garcia is 6’2 and weighed in at 208. Sure it could be considered an uneven affair, with Garcia having a 40 pound weight advantage. However, Hotta is 49 years old and has ‘grown woman strength’. If not, she can always hit Garcia with her hand chains and lightning strikes.

Like we stated before, Cro Cop was absent from the weigh-ins. MikeSwick.com has since received confirmation from a source close to RIZIN that Cro Cop is still fighting. Just unknown circumstances that caused him to miss the weigh-ins.

Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett also made news by not being at the weigh-ins and MikeSwick.com was told it was over visa issues. His fight with Minoru Kimura has now been cancelled as a result. MikeSwick.com will be speaking with Bennett to find out exactly what his visa issues were, very soon.

Andy Nguyen came out dressed as the Pokemon character, Pikachu. Not exactly breaking news, but… when you add in the man sized Cup-O-Noodles, wearing a Speedo and Genki Sudo mask, it gets people talking.
