Sergei Kharitonov doing the impossible. Knocking Big Country out.

sergei-kharitonov-impossible-knocking-big-country

Three impossible things happened yesterday that I couldn’t believe. I saw a pig fly, Hell froze over, and Sergei Kharitonov knocked Roy Nelson out. Known for having one of the most solid jaws in MMA, Nelson had it put to the test by Kharitonov’s fists last night in Bellator. Spoiler alert, his jaw lost.

Granted, Nelson has lost by TKO/KO before. However, no time was ever in the first round like last night to Sergei. Usually, Nelson gets tired out and he fades with his chin following. Never would I expect that Nelson would go down in the first round. Kharitonov has explosives in his fists and he unloaded on Big County last night.

Impressive stuff by Sergei.

Bellator 200 conference call. Cro Cop, Nelson, Mousasi, and Carvalho

bellator-conference-call-cro-cop-nelson-mousasi-carvalho

Bellator held a Bellator 200 conference call. The main and co-main event fighters were all on the line. Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson, Gegard Mousasi, and Rafael Carvalho (via translator) all get their talking time in and all were on their best behavior.

Cro Cop and Nelson already fought in 2011 and Cro Cop lost via TKO. Cro Cop has been on a tear since he retired/unretired/retired/unretired and he’s looking to avenge the loss from 2011. Nelson most recently lost to Matt Mitrione three months ago in the opening round of the Bellator heavyweight tournament. This fight between the two will decide who earns the alternate spot in the tourney if there is an injury.

Mousasi had a tough outing in his Bellator debut fight against Alexander Shlemenko, however, he still earned the victory. Mousasi is currently on a six-fight win streak going into his fight with Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. Carvalho is on a fifteen-fight win streak after only losing his debit fight in 2011. Mousasi will easily be the toughest test in Carvalho’s career.
